16th Century

Cheese Abroad

During this time in history, there was a lot of exploration of the New
World and abroad.  Cheese was a main staple that was brought
along on many of these journeys.  Cheese was listed as a supply on
the Mayflower in 1620!

With the increased exploration to various countries and continents
including New Zealand, Africa, and the Americas. Many of these
emigrants took their traditions and methods of cheese making with
them resulting in more varieties and further development in cheese making.

Some of the different types of cheese created during this time period are
Brie, Gruyère, Cheddar, and Parmesan.
