13th Century

Birth of the Farm Co-op

During this time, most cheese was "homemade" on the farm by women
and we begin to see the emergence of more varieties.

The early development of Farm Co-operatives began in this time.
Villages, towns, and regions realized the power of pooling milk
and resources as well as sharing the cheese produced.  The first
recorded farm co-operative was in 1267 located in Déservilliers, France.
